3 Austin Shelters to Support on Change a Pet's Life Day

Today, January 24th, is Change a Pet’s Life Day. There are so many pets whose lives have been changed when they were adopted by a loving owner. However, there are also many pets who have spent years in a shelter, wishing that someone would walk through those doors and take them home. 

There are numerous ways to support shelter pets in Austin, Texas. The Austin Animal Center, Austin Humane Society, and Austin Pets Alive! all provide shelter and support to pets who are waiting to find their forever homes. While you may not be in a position to adopt another fur baby right now, consider donating to their wish lists to help these pets live their best lives. Let's look at some of the wish lists that these shelters have available online!

Austin Animal Center

Austin Animal Center has two wish lists linked in the link in bio of their Instagram account: a dog treat wish list on Amazon, and a general Amazon wish list. Their general Amazon wish list shows how many of a particular item they need, as well as how many of that item they currently have. Their needed items include a variety of pet care products including toys, crates, harnesses, food, and more. Their wish list also contains paper goods like paper towels and toilet paper, as well as items like cloth towels and bottled water. Their separate dog treat wish list shows the types of treats that they need for their pups.

Austin Humane Society 

Austin Humane Society has two wish lists in the Linktree in their Instagram bio: one for Amazon, and one for Chewy. Similarly to the Austin Animal Center, Austin Humane Society’s wish lists list pet care products, dog and cat food, paper goods, and some additional medical supplies to meet pets’ medical needs. In addition to listing the items that they need donated, their Chewy wish list also provides the option to purchase a Chewy gift card for them to use directly. Check out their wish lists below!

Austin Pets Alive!

Austin Pets Alive! organizes their wish lists into categories. Clicking on the wish list option in the Linktree in their Instagram bio will open a page on their website with links to Amazon wish lists for different types of programs–cat programs, long-stay dog programs, neonatal kitten nursery programs, etc. At the top of the page, they have a link to their urgent needs wish list, which details the items that they are most in need of at the moment. At the bottom of the page, they give an additional list of items that can be donated to the shelter in case people would like to donate any pet supplies/other items that they already have at home.
